
Assistant Merchandiser
My client is a well known established high street retailer, who due to expansion plans have an opportunity for an Assistant Merchandiser.
Summary of the role
This role of assistant merchandiser does come with a higher level of responsibility than most Assistant Merchandising roles in so much as the job holder will not only be responsible for assisting the Merchandiser in the planning and forecasting of their designated range, but they will also be accountable for the production and implementation of promotional activity and markdown proposals working alongside the buying and the marketing teams.

Planning the Range: You will be required to assist the merchandiser in formulating proposals for the range to be signed off in selection meetings. The advanced in house systems, which are accurately maintained, will enable you to use previous seasons data combined with on trend market information to propose new objectives and strategy for the future season.
Buying the Range: Using the in house merchandise systems, you will be responsible for supplier management, to ensure all contracts are confirmed on time while maintaining effective working relationships. Your merchandiser will hold the responsibility for managing the business across the supplier base, but you will assist in the day to day duties, and analysis of this role.
Managing the Team: Although you may not necessarily have direct reports, you will be required to assist your merchandiser in developing the trainee's using SMART objectives and delegating work accordingly.
Progressing the Range: Following final selection, it is vital all orders are closely tracked to ensure delivery is on time for the launch. You will be responsible for identifying potential issues, proposing solutions where necessary to ensure all key dates are met. This will include working closely with the Buying team, your Merchandiser, the technology team and suppliers.
In Season Control: In season control maximises profitability by trading the range in retail directory and online by assessing sales against previous sales and departmental plans. You will be accountable for the production and implementation of the promotional activity and markdown proposals where needed, working alongside the buying and the marketing teams.

You will need to be able to demonstrate high levels of business acumen and relevant qualifications are highly desirable. You should be a logical and analytical problem solver as well as someone who is a confident communicator. A genuine interest in fashion is highly desirable.
